Google Consent Mode, wired to the choice your visitor actually made.

Consent Mode lets Google tags adjust their behaviour according to consent state rather than being removed entirely. DotCensus sets the defaults before your tags load and updates them the moment a visitor decides.

Status today: In beta. Both basic and advanced deployment models are implemented; the integration page states which consent types are mapped.

What it is

Google's mechanism for communicating consent state to Google Analytics, Google Ads and other Google tags, using a documented set of consent types that tags read before and during execution.

What DotCensus controls

  • ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization
  • functionality_storage, personalization_storage and security_storage
  • Default state set before any Google tag initializes
  • Update dispatched immediately on grant, change or withdrawal

How it is installed

  • Connect the site in DotCensus and map each category to the consent types it governs
  • Install the DotCensus runtime before your Google tags — ordering is the whole game here
  • Choose basic or advanced mode to match how you want tags to behave before a decision
  • Publish, then run a verification scan

How you verify it

  • Privacy Health reports whether the default state was set before the first Google request
  • The three-state scan shows analytics firing only in the accepted state
  • Signal diagnostics show the update dispatched on the decision

Limits worth knowing

  • Choosing a Consent Mode model is a configuration decision, not a determination of your legal obligations
  • Advanced mode still sends cookieless pings before consent by design — that is Google's behaviour, and your policy decision, not something DotCensus hides

Know what runs before you ask visitors to trust it.

Start with a scan of what your website loads today. The list is usually longer than the team expects, and that is the useful part.
